I was looking for a row of reflective scales under the dorsal fin in OP's pics before I replied, and I thought I saw it.....maybe more pics would help.

It's possible they are washed out by the flash and angle ... more pics would deffinately help. Just based soley on the two pics above, I'd lean map ... but if those scales show up on the next pics ...

I'm sorry, Tonight I'll take more pictures.
Just for background... I'm from Israel and this fish came from a shippment "Jurupary Nature".
I saw that he's different from the others, so I baught it, and then I've posted this thread.

Were the fish "wild caught?" Were they shipped in directly from south America, or from a middleman that got them directly from south America?

I'm not an expert on satanoperca at all, but I do know that you can often find several species in the same collecting point and occasionally you will get a different species in with a shipment of more common fish. Happens with all fish too, not just cichlids.

I know, thats why I go to every shipment that comes to our country, to find the "mistakes".
Thats how I got my Satanoperca Deamon too... :naughty:

Sorry for the late reply. I'm still leaning mapiritensis.

I have this fish and something about the spots just doesn't look right to me so I am leaning towards the Sataneperca L. Mine are way more spotted than this. I will try to post a pic. I have 3 that are about 7 inches and the back fins appear to me void of the spots.

I agree. You can really see the blue in the pectoral and anal fins in the new pics, plus still can't see the row of spots under the dorsal.

Your keeping s. mapiritensis? Please, please, please start a thread on them? We have to discuss breeding and share notes! :D

That is what I thought too, at the best angle for them to show they are questionable at best. The extra pics really did help.
