Help with Sexing L600

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's been a long time since I've seen this thread and I'd like to think I've learned some things in that time and I should probably address what I now believe were mistakes.

I still believe the OP's fish is a male based upon the head and body shape. I also believe it to be an LD07/600 as opposed to the LDA073/L600 from Guyana, which is the true Pseudacanthicus leopardus.

As far as my fish I'd shared here, I'm not sure that the second one is an LDA07. I've honestly got no idea what it is other than another form of L114. Apparently there are many. That fish is absolutely a female. My L600, I'd been thinking was a female but I'm unsure as the body appears to be that of a male, however it's got minimal odontodes and a smooth 45* angle adipose fin. Both are roughly 7"-8" now.
When I'd purchased the mystery 114, I'd also picked up three others. Lost one but the other two, which I assume were from the same collection point look completely different.

I'd been thinking of creating a thread where we can all show our various forms of 114, 600, ect and adding the collection points if known. It'd be great to get an idea of what sort of variations are out there and hopefully where each originates from.

I haven't photographed these two individually in a while but here are updated pictures of both from about a year ago along with their baby pictures to show how much they've changed. Also adding the same for my two mystery 114s, one of my traditional 114s and a couple of pictures of them together to show just how different their colors are.

Showing off differences. My camera boosted the colors in the first pic due to the low light setting on my LEDs. The fish in front is the L600 from the previous postings.

Wish this one was wider but from left to right is one of my traditional 114s and then the two fish in the picture above

You really should create a post and share all this great data and pics. It would be very helpful
