i dont mean to sound stupid or ask alot of questions. im just trying to figure these fish out. my breeding pair of JD was easy lol. the reason im trying to figure out the 1st pic, which was supposed to be a midas. because i have it with a red devil and they have been acting very "strange". just was curious if it is a real midas since it looks so weird with the spots. that "midas" beat the crap out of my managuense, who is at least 2x his size. i had to take the managuense out. im very picky on my red devils and midas. i can tell a labitus from citrinellum easily but cant know what a true citrinellum looks like as iv never had one this size. i have 2 red devils atm, both the true, labitus, ordered from jeff rapps.

yeah sorry but that guy is definitely no midas, like i said they dont get those spangles like that, what another person said actually sounds pretty good for id in that it is a red texas with alot of snook in it, i couldnt figure out where it was getting the color and body shape from but yeah definitely looks snookish to me as well, but yeah definitely a red texas attempt, NOT a midas though its quite possible that it has still paired with your red devil. as for the other two if you vented and they looked the same then they are probably both male, in fish that large if your looking at their private areas its pretty obvious when you compare them that there is differences, males will have 2 small holes while a female will have different sized ones like this Oo (looking at actual hole not paler colored opening around the hole)

You don't sound stupid at all. I havn't posted in forever, and your thread sparked some convorsation from me. Nice fish, better looking water!

are snooks mean? this guy wont let anything else in my tank lol, except the red devil. took me a while to figure out they would be ok together. is it even worth letting them breed? so i have one red texas, one failed red texas and a regular texas? lol

thank you on the water, i try and keep all of my tanks super clean as i have several breeding projects going on atm, gonna make me go bald lol. they all get weekly water test and changes if nessasry. although the aquaclear 110' and the filstar xp3s do a wonder full job lol.

no snooks are actually pretty mild but it think when paired they can be pretty nasty, though im sure it has some red devil or midas mixed in as well, its like with flowerhorns, midas based flowerhorns are still usually way more aggressive than an actual midas and most flowerhorns have to be kept on their own because of the trimac and everything else mixed into them, its like all the meanness gets mixed up and multiplied lol

lol o great, i have 2 trimacs im working on breeding also. i know the male and female in those tho i think lol. he has been mean like this before the red devil was in there. seems like the bigger the fish the more he wants to kill it. i have the red texas in there with him and in like 10 min it was all tore up, bit its lips off. they are about the same size. i placed the red texas in the tank with the other smaller texas and thats when they started digging holes and doing some type of mating dance lol. the texas cichlids doing that made me decide to start this long post, i was all hopeful the larger one was female lol. i figured while i was at it i would ask about the failed red texas aka fake midas lol.
