ok, i got the aquarium salt, i added 1/2 the recomended amount because what was recomended seemed very excessive should i add the other 1/2 or just let it rest until tomarrow?
i usually recommend about .02% salinity which would mean 2.5cups per 100gal. but don't add all at once. add about half between two dosings one day and the other half the next day. to add disolve and add slowly so you don't have a huge concentration in one spot. i'm not sure what fish you have but some (mostly scaleless fish) are very suseptable to burning from it.
im from all of washington, i live in both the seattle / tacoma area and also in Vancover. the company i work for is wanting me to transfer from their seattle branch to their portland branch. so im giving the portland life a try before i make a final decision.
Another reason not to feed feeders to your fish--they carry disease! How large is the tank? There is no reason for a healthy tank to crash like that & to lose that many fish over 1 short weekend. Large water changes is what I recommend. What are the parameters?
That tank is waaaay overstocked. You should be doing much largeer water changes & looking for about a 500g tank. I do 50% weelys on my normally-stockesd tanks. This is why you lost so many fish so fast.
the pacu is at most 4 inches and the largest of the 6 oscars is no more than 3 inches. i dont think its over stocked yet, after they grow up a little i would agree, but rite now the tank appears quite empty.
A long weekend is what, 3-4 days. So how did someone like this happen when you were coincidently away?
1. Insufficent water changes.
2. Roomies fault.
3. Faulty heater.
4. Insufficent filter.
5. Over-feeding.
