so last night and this morning I noticed white spots forming on the body and fins of my iridescents. I'm assuming some form of ich? Are pictures necessary or can you guys judge what exactly it is? Also, whatever it is, how do i treat it?

anyone? I'm sure most of you have had problems with ich before so how did you treat it? If I had a quarentine tank it would be easier but the best i have is only a small goldfish tank that my sister doesn't use anymore. it's only like 3,4 maybeeee 5 gallon.s can't see t being that much but yah. which is no good for 3" and 2.5" iridescent sharks. redtail black shark and 4 tiger barbs. way too small. so what should I do to treat this?

If it is ick raise the temp and add aquarium salt per directions on the box. Post a pick so someone can positively ID your problem to be sure.

thank you. I'm pretty sure it is ick. i've seen pictures of ick and a couple live with it and it looks the same so I would assume thats what it is. alot of people suggest using a quarentine tank then treating the empty tank. but I don't have this option at the moment. so would heating it up a bit (how high? it's around 26 C now) and adding salt work? thank you for the input anyone else agree?

Increase heat to 28-30 degrees Celsius and dissolve and add salt slowly. Use a tablespoon per 5g dose. I wouldn't worry about table salt regardless of people's beliefs.

so your saying to disove table salt in water then add the water to the tank and add 1 tablespoon for ever 5 gallons? plus upping the temp? Just making sure i got it correct. and do i just do this once? or?

Get a cup and pour tank water on it. Pour the amount of salt as per dosage and keep stirring until salt dissolves. I'd add the salt slowly to the tank. Don't be too hasty as most fish die from osmotic shock brought about by salt.

well that makes sence. you've been a lot of help. I will do this when I get home. One last question .. you say add it slowly. can you describe this time period a little better? over a few hours? a few days? like how often should I add it and how much

Just to be sure, add a tablespoon dose per 10-15 minutes. I did this with mine when my loaches had ich. Scaleless fish are a little more sensitive to osmotic shock if done hastily but meds can be worse than salt and are best used as a last resort. Please keep us updated.
