I just bought a 4 inch silver aro today, and I have him in a 50 gallon. I acclimated him and everything, but when I came back 2 hours later he was laying sideways at the top of the tank. Do I need to be concerned??

It depends... I got 3 baby silvers, 2 with the yolk sacks. They were floating on their sides as I was acclimating. I would move them n they started swimming just fine. I dont think they like the acclimation process. They did that for about 1hr after I dumped them in the tank off and on. They were fine for a week or so till they killed eachother... only 1 left but didnt loose them to nothing but "Beat up". As long as they are eating you should be good... JM2C's, keep us posted

Sorry to say, once that gas bladder starts malfunctioning, it's usually the end.
whats gas bladder? and how do you avoid it?

As already stated not normal behavior for a silver?

If he is a flounder, then no.

Otherwise...

You obviously know nothing of flounders, as the lay sideways at the bottom of the tank.

Nothing personal, but why do you jump to conclusion like this in most (if not all) of your responses when you probably don't know much about the person and/or his/her knowledge...
