Hi guys. I have a rectic Ray about 4-5inches wide. I can seem to feed him because I have 7 silver dollars. And they keep snatching all the food away from him. Only time my ray ate was when I dropped a huge ball of live bloodworms and he went straight for it. But the silver dollars saw it. They went for it and gobbled it all up! Help! What do I do to feed my ray!

feed the silver dollars 1st with pellets then feed your ray its food and feed 2-3 times a day so your ray gets a good feed.

SDs are the type to try and eat everything possible, especially foods they can inhale quickly like blood or blackworms. They will eat till they burst and then eat some more. Its hard to keep fish like that with a ray that is a tentative eater till he is pounding food.
You could target feed with long tongs or tube as suggested. Or seperate until its pounding food but even then you will have to add enough that portions fall past the SDs to reach the ray.

Hi what do you mean by "pounding food"?

I just meant that the ray was jumping on the food and eating very well.

I use the pvc method as well its very good and easy. Ive also made a feeding cage before out of ceiling egg crates and zip ties. I would lower the cage over the ray then put a pvc tube down and drop bloodworms

Lose the silver dollars

The PVC pipe target feeding works very well and I've done it over the years with different slow bottom feeders, banjo catfish, rays etc.

You can also feed the ray under cover of darkness, when the dollars are resting and the ray is active. I would suggest feeding any small ray once through the night, just before you go to bed or whatever, as it's a long period of time through he night without food and the Ray is naturally very active. Rays have a high metabolic rate, they need to feed often, especially a small pup like yours. Good luck
