Your not being naive, Firemouths can reach 7 inches and more.A small group if firemouths ir any other small c/a cichlid would need a 55 bare minimum.

you'd actually use a 55g over a 40BR? Where were you when I made the thread those 2 Jackasses kept derailing? I coulda used your input.

Depends on species of fish or solo fish or community, but 9 times out of 10 I would chose extra length.
