HELPPP My friends tank

I was thinking this was one of those "asking for a friend" stories. Like when he asked his parents why his friend gets bullied in middle school.
Doesn't matter who's tank it is. These fish need help and the guy needs good advice.
I have never used any of the bacteria in a bottle products, so can not comment on their effectiveness. I have cycled tanks with fish in them and got through it by doing daily 50% water changes and reduced feeding. Even decor out of an established tank can help kick start the cycling process. I would do back to back 50%+ wc immediately to get rid of the high nitrite level. Keep changing water until the nitrate readings come up and the nitrite is 0. As others have suggested it would be easier to return the fish, and cycle the tank completely before introducing more stock.
We have to fish in a bucket now using water we syphined out of my 220 and put the Black belt and Jack Dempsey in my tank for the temp because they were the only fish not effected and bullying the other fish in the bucket. Which has a 55G filter strapped on the back
nitrite is more toxic to fish than ammonia, give him some seeded media and do a complete water change. treat the tank with prime/safe before adding new water, I do not know if MB well help with nitrite poisoning in a bath. it does for ammonia.
