Henlei vs. King Henlei

The point I was making is just like Leos or Marbles, Hens patterns vary also. You have higher quality Hens just like Leos and Marbles. As for as paying more money for a personal pattern preference, that is up to the individual. I would pay more for either of the first two pics than I would for any P14, they do nothing for me. But that is my personal taste.

the problem is that 'quality' in this kind of context is highly subjective and in the trade depends on PR more than anything :) Case in point 'batman' rays, congenitally deformed rays, being desirable. Of course this is not just limited to rays in the fish world, but is why the hobby and the science are usually divided.

I totally agree with the PR and quality discussion. I was just pointing out to Grumpy ;) that not all Henlei appear to look like eachother. :)

T1 is right about hen.you can't judge a hen from its pup pattern anyways.every new born hen I've seen is a "king " pattern .ive had about a dozen different hens some even looked like galaxy pattern.ive had nice pups turn ugly and ugly turn nice and even grow the spotting back like it had when it was a pup.
I've also owned the other henlei listed as p.garrapa the 3rd black ray. It to me looked like a henxmoto hybrid. I bought as a big wild caught hen and after a few years realized this ray was not quite the same.

Here's something for any body considering buying hens. King hen is not worth any more than a hen? If this answers the purpose of this thread .

if you get different grades what happened to the queen and jack henlei or will the highest grade be the ace henlei

some are just nicer than others and no flash name will change that

a hen that starts off life as a hen may get more spots as it grows at which point does it become a king

if a king has 20 spots does that mean a hen with 19 spots is classed as a normal hen

that 1st pic you posted i would still class as a hybrid as it has the tail tail signs of rings around the main spot much like many leo x hens i have seen

The whole point of my post was to show that there is a wide variety of Hens just as Leos, Marbles and other types of rays. Not prices. But since the first is supposedly a Leo/Hen then here is another example of the so called King Hens.

I was just asking about the spot patterns, as if price were not different.

IMO if it's a pattern that is readily duplicated then why not. The way I view it is the "King" just refers to the spot pattern vs. the std. single spot that most have, all are beautiful to me and I would assume the whole variant is worth the money since they are all nice.

Really interesting thread
