The overflow is loud but. Not unbearable. The durso is also a 1.5" PVC down to a 1" bulkhead that follows 1" PVC to the sump. This alone can handle the flow w the syphin closed. Regardless, the quiet one isn't so quiet! They were purchased July of 2010 and apparently the flow rating onthe box is higher than what it says on websites. Later I'll try to dig up the link to the pic. If you search through my threads you'll find the pic. It should be title something about a 300g deep dimension. I'm on my phone trying to work right now or I would dig it up

Got I going. I actually got it stable w a ball valve. I'm running a quiet one 9000 at about 2000gph at 4'.

The quiet one is loud as heck.

One last question, should one 90 account for 1' of head loss?

i got mine to work on a ball valve too. couldnt find a pvc gate valve at home depot, but a ball valve worked just fine for me.
