  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Doesn't sound like it's done yet. Add a powerhead for current. Keep the water clean.

Why are you adding the peroxide to the water? Would stop adding the peroxide unless it's treating something specific.

Add some salt (non iodized) to the tank 1 tsp per gallon.

What was the value of ur ammonia initially? Not sure what ur definition of ideal is.
Fish store paper said "0" = "ideal "

I would keep doing water changes. Sounds like this tank went through what is called old tank syndrome. Basically, it means the cycle has crashed. So the good bacteria has to re establish.

The best thing you can do is do not feed. He can go weeks without eating unless he is already very thin. I would highly suggest a large water change like in the range of 80% or more. the max you can do. Make sure to use a good conditioner like prime to treat the tank. A little aquarium salt and you should be good. Keep doing daily water changed after that (around 50% or more) and see if that doesn't help.

I would give it a few days at most before putting him down.

Stop beating yourself up and try and do everything you can to keep that water in tip top shape. Also, don't run the lights more than 6 hours a day or so. or maybe not at all if the room is lit. let him relax.

Adding an air stone couldn't hurt either. drop temps a bit is not a bad idea either.
Thx. No lights xcept calming comfort light. Being a tank buster we have him in the middle of everything to occupy him. He can see me working in kitchen - watch us eat - watch TV with us and when someone comes to visit & they forget to greet him he slaps the water really hard cuz he's mad he can't bark like dogs. Maybe I should cover tank with sheet?

Peroxide for oxygen cuz he's gasping.

Is the white discoloration on the body new? Or Is it the normal color of the midas?

don't cover the tank, just don't run the light to reduce stress.

I don't think you mentioned what size tank he is in. This would help gauge the amount of what to change.

Either way I think that's your best bet for now is to just keep changing water as much and as often as you can since I have a strong feeling like your cycle is not established.

120 gallon. Changed 50 % now waiting 72 hours for new bacteria to grow which puts me at Saturday for a change but I am confused since the good new bacteria should be grown by then why would I take them out? So I can still get the nitrates down to healthier range but don't think I need to do 50% to get there - more likely 25% max?

He's always had that.

Ugh Trying to post photos to show variety in Midas coloration but can't get them to post. Plus how I found this place was Jeff Rapp photos cuz I figured that I better know for sure if he is Midas or Devil before I come to experts. That photo is right here on this site but I can't seem to link it. Took multiple tries to get above photo posted too.
