It may be an infection as reptiles almost always have their eyes open when awake. Try opening the eye (VERY carefully). If it's got gook in it, it's likely an infection. Keep him off loose substrate, raise the temps and lower the humidity.

:iagree:Dont forget this is without a doubth a wild cauth specimen and you should quarentinize him before puting him in the permanent terrarium just to be shure(more deco=more dificult to keep one eye on him and more dificult to keep things clean wich is important considering he can have mites and other bugs). a closed eye can also be sign of nutricional defeciencis(normal when dealing with imported herps). Make shure your giving him at least 3 diferent staple prey insects(roaches, crickets and mealworms for example) that they are all gut loaded and pulverized with a good suplement(Zoomeds reptivite). Also dont forget this guys will eat other stuff other then bugs. Try sweet fruit like mango and figs and yellow flowers like dandilions:D

ok well he was fine for 2 or so weeks in the pet store I go to and I always looked at him and he was active, eating, drinking, looking at me with both eyes
but it wasn't until I got home he started to seem like it irritated him
I don't know if it was the sand or box on the drive home
I also noticed last night he seemed to "cry" as I believe I previously stated in a post before
but also might it be because of the fact hes in the middle of a shed and he is just starting to peel a bit off on his back

and like one person said to try to open it carefully
well I tryed but was too nervouse and didn't want to try too much but I did wipe his eye with a damp paper towel

If he's in the middle of a shed give him a warm soak and be sure to pay extra attention to his toes. Remove all particulate substrate untill you see him get better (preferable for good). MAke sure you dust and gutload all his food, for at least 6 hours prior to feeding - preferably a day or two. Raise the temps and little and leave him alone for a while.

I'd recommend picking up some Zoomed Turtle Eye Drops. Don't worry, it works fine for other reptiles. Just follow the directions. It's also has vitamin A in it which will help with healing whatever the problem is.

ok well I don't think it's the shed as when I woke up this morning he was sitting next to the skin its self, he looks a lot darker now so thats good
but now I will try and get some of that turtle stuff
also I am feeding crickets and mealies but coura said I should feed 3 insect types
and I really don't want roaches so would wax worms work
(terrified of roaches saw one in cuba that nearly made me puke)
aslo I am feeding him graded carrots and romane

I really need to find t his turtle stuff but turtles are illegal here so are there any other things to get and last night I saw him try to open his eye but it looked as if it bothered him

so your saying keep him off of sand but these are burrowing creatures
when this guy isn't in the sand hes coming up for a drink or a quick bask
so depriving him of it just seems like a bad thing
but I will keep him off until his eye gets better just not his whole life

bump!

I ok so earlier I put him in some water and rubbed his eye and it opened
it didn't open long (only and hour) but it opened and it does so every so often now, but after that I found out that he LOVES soaking in the water
when I put him back in his cage he ran for his little water dish and curled up in it, so now I gave him a bigger one and he jumped in and has been there for about 30 mins
