even though fh are hybrids, u have to follow it's form regulations. this is horrible. mutilating of a useful organ is not good sense. please dont buy these fishes. even a ugly fish of any variety is good if u keep it healthy and if u try to learn everything about it. that is the joy of pet keeping. so dont encourage this in the name of uniqueness
LMAO not another 1.......

He didn't buy the fish it was dropped into one of his tanks. He was just asking a question. He didn't want everyone to bash him for his new FH that he DIDN'T pay for. Just because someone does have this fish and they didn't know what people did to the fish to get it like this would you just inform him or bash him? Seams like everyone that did bash this fish would do it to a new comer for having a dyed or heart shaped fish. Seriously can we just stop giving him crap for taking in a fish that was left with him. This site is for being helpful. Not to get upset because someone put this fish practically on his lap and he took it in so the fish would have a good home. :screwy: People on this site make little sense anymore with how they treat people.

I could understand you taking pity on that fish. That is not a natural genetic defect, it is genetic engenering or worse mutalation, it's sad. Not your fault, just another horrible practice forced on fish by people with a God complex. I've seen pics of Blood parrots looking like that.

Good job on the rescue. I'm sure he's better off with you than whatever fate would have befallen him had you not taken him. What happened to him isn't his or your fault, so I am pretty amazed at all the negativity in the responses. I think people didn't read your post, they just looked at the picture and automatically went onto their soapboxes. It's not like you went out to your pet store and asked for a mutilated fish, it was a rescue! And good on you for taking him in. I hope he is a great pet for you.

Water lettuce might work out. Worth a try and it's really affordable since most people who have it give it away for free.

thanks guys for all the compliments on rescueing the fish
i will be telling all my friends and fellow fishkeepers in my area to not purchase fish of this nature and encourage people to do theyre research before buying
im going to try thos floating plants in a week or two
now of topic
but does anyone have anybreeding tips for this lovley couple
how can i jump start the process?
or do i just let mother nature do its work ?...wich is ussualy the answer

Wow...

As far as it being an anomaly it's certainly already been pointed out that it's not. Your employees will just drop any fish they find at the door step into your tank? I'd fire those employees. What if it was a brackish fish, or contributed a parasite or disease to your tank and offed your other fish? Or they were RBP??? Lol, yeah, I'd Donald Trump 'em.

Anyhow, on to the plant question. I noticed someone mention egg crate and you were asking if it would work and hide well. I was working on a 95g tank and wanted to have the look of grass growing through the substrate. I cut pieces of egg crate and siliconed fake plastic grass to the egg crate in bundles and then layed the egg crate flat on the glass bottom and covered it with substrate. It looks great and the fish weren't able to uproot what was siliconed to egg crate that was held down by the substrate. Of course, you could always do this with fake plants if you didn't want the grass. I think I have some old pictures of this I'll dig up now and slap on here for reference.

As you can see from the last picture the egg crate isn't visible at all. If I did this again with grass I'd definitely clump the grass up a lot more to make bundles because I think my finished product looked a little "thin" if that makes sense.

2 completely different things. Fish actually use the tail fin.
