Petsmart has a vet? I didn't know that and I go quite often to look at the fish and see if there's any I may want to snatch up. It'd be nice though if all Petsmart employees went and editted that info.

They're using the 1" of fish per gallon rule on cichlids too. So a 15" South American (lol) Midas can comfortably live in a 15 gallon tank. That's good advice...NOT!!

Oh nevermind. I forgot that according to Petsmart, an adult Midas is only 3"-10" max.

yea by that same rule a 15 foot fish can live in a 180!!!! If you ever took the fish out you would only have like 3" of water left!!!

this is not good.

for two reasons:

1. the average person overfeeds their fish

and

2. the average person overstocks.

you have seen some of the tanks of fellow monsterfishkeepers LOL

If I did only a 10% w/c on my 90 each week my giant fish would be dead within the month :)

I get that its not enough, but its better then alot of what I have heard, its definitely better then 25% per month. I can get away with a 10% change on some of my tanks with the nitrates leaving the 10-20ppm area. It just depends on the tank.

Would it be legal to air a commercial specifically showing the mis-infomation chain pet stores give out to make a few bucks? If so, we should start a donation to air one...

Can we please address issues like these to the management instead of bashing the stores? This will help them better. You, at least, contribute to saving the lives of many fish and even help educate beginners the basics of this hobby.:)

Yup. Flaming the store here does nothing but start a flame fest. It is better to use your knowlege to make change for the better rather than just gripe about it.

And at least that pamphlet tries to get people to do some weekly maintenance. 10% every week is way better than 90% of the people out there are doing.

By the way, I "adopted" a free Midas that someone brought in because it grew too big. The girl had no clue what kind of fish it was even though their Midas tank is right behind the bagging station.
