But for what they get paid, they are supposed to be an expert in every type of animal carried, not just fish. And if you still feel the need to flame Petsmart, Petco, etc., do yourself and us a favor. Stay the hell out. If it's so bad why do you keep going back and aggravating yourself and annoying the worker.

Never said my job was low paying or completely crappy. What I was "pissing and moaning" about was idiot know it alls who apparently are too stupid to have read the actual post and comprehend what was written. Perhaps you should return to school for some remedial courses and possible brain transplant.

Well I guess it sounded like you work there from the statements made. Even if the customers are a know it all, the employee should still stick to the truth. Resorting to lying or agreeing with an untruth is just wrong. As far as going back to school, maybe I will. My stupidity makes me $80 bucks an hour right now. Maybe a brain transplant will increase my pay? As far as reading the actual posts goes....I've read all 40 posts are yours' are the only ones defending the mis-guiding wrong literature information. So who the stupid idiot here?

How fortunate that correct grammar is not a requirement for that job, otherwise the dollars would be falling like leaves. I said that the literature was at least an attempt, not the end all of knowledge. If you actually read, and comprehended, the post, I stated that the people doing the complaining should try looking at it from the other side for a while. If you have never heard a bunch of bs from the experts at the non chain stores, well you are just lucky, or lying. Being an independent storer does not automatically make one an expert. I have heard as many wrong, or maybe, differing opinions on fish and fishkeeping at them as any chain store. Now we can continue to debate, and I use that term loosely, the subject or it can be ended. Apparently we have very different views on the subject and are not going to change them. I guess that bad advice I got from one employee at a chain electronics store makes everyone of them idiots across the country. Try going in with an open mind, you maybe surprised. Otherwise, why go in at all if it's such a disaster. Doesn't sound too bright.

The example of bad advice from the electronics store was by mouth. This thread is referring to PRINTED LITERATURE from a nationwide pet store. So no it doesn't make them idiots all across the country because of one guy.

Why go in at all? Where's the open mind in that? Doesn't sound too bright? Why do you insist on making this a personal attack on me? I didn't make the literature saying a pacu grows 3 F*ing inches!! Or Midas are from South America. Btw, I do go in with an open mind...all that changes though when I'm listening to them tell people 3 pacus can be put in a 29 gallon kids aquarium. Go ahead and defend the Petsmart literature if you want, but don't say that all 40 of us are the stupid ones. You''re the only one here pro-F*cked-up Petsmart literature. Good luck with that. :screwy:

Go ahead a flame away all you want. I'm done here.

Because you attacked me for defending some of the hard working kids who try to make a difference, you F*ing moron. I can believe that a store would tell someone a story about pacu, but not every store. I also believe that some one else stated that at least they were trying to give some advice to people about maintenance, so I am not the only one who had something positive to say. I don't look at the pamphlets, they are fairly new, or even the tags when making recommendations to people. They are informed as to the actual size and requirements needed. That could be why we haven't sold a pacu in months. ID cats, midas, tinfoils, the same thing. Since you are so smart, why don't you make corrections to the pamphlets and submit them to the corp. Sorry, I forgot, that would require effort and knowledge on your part when it's so much easier to sit behind your little keyboard talking tough about something you obviously know little about.

dragonfish no one is attacking u. we're against the pamplets being handed out to newbie aquarium owners who dont know any better. im kinda new here and love mfk. people like u calling other members stupid and moron and cursing at everyone makes you look like a childish moron yourself. please refrain from attacks on mfk people. what do u want from us? to admit that the literature is 100% accurate and that all fish store employees are genius's and only give proper advice? to admit giving good advice at petsmart to new aquarists is more important than a sale? i dont think thats gonna happen. im in the corporate world and know how it works. im sure they have a monthly sales target theyre required to make or heads will roll. giving up a sale is not in the financial plan of corporate owned chain stores.

u said u dont look at the pamplets so look now and see what we're complaining about

Mark,
I have looked at the pamphlets, I know that they are not 100% accurate, that's why I don't use them. As to anything else said, I stick with it. I was attacked for defending people, not too grownup there. About not going into the store if it's such a horrible occurence, I still agree with that. Yes, corporations have sales plans, but they also give latitude on the sales if the animal will not be properly cared for. I agree that there are some fish that we should not sell. There is also a locally owned store that sells tanks full of sick fish, keep 2 foot aro, lung and ck in a 75, sell anacondas, monitors and a wide variety of other animals that shouldn't be to just anyone walking in off the street. If I offended anyone that was not part of this "debate", I apologize. To anybody offended that was involved, too bad, get a life.
I am done.

They're using the 1" of fish per gallon rule on cichlids too. So a 15" South American (lol) Midas can comfortably live in a 15 gallon tank. That's good advice...NOT!!

Woot! Those baby RTC at my lfs are super cute, I cant resist.. 50G should be enough, as to 1" per gallon :D

 HOLY CRAP!!!! :WHOA: :nilly:

Isn't this a grand thread that I started lol... didn't think it would get this brutal

I posted this not to cast a bad light on the employees on the floor, but to show what BS the PetSmart corporate is dishing out.

At our local PetSmart, the people in the fish area are very nice and helpful young people. They honestly try, but they can only work with the tools and info they are given. Corporate and management are the ones to blame here, not the people on the retail floor...

Burt:)

dragonfish, you sound just like the unreasonable "know it all customer" you so seem to hate dealing with. You spout off all these defenses and excuses to justify your position, when in reality, you really have no idea.
You my friend are a lost cause, and any further attempts by me to reason with you in a civil conversation, as far as I'm concerned, is a waste of my time.
Good luck on your future with that sort of unbending, uncompromising, hardheaded, "I'm better than you, you all are just morons", mentality.
Ooops, I'm sorry, mentality means a mental capacity of some sort.
Unfortunately you did not make the cut.
How's that for grammar, punctuation, and spelling ???
Do you even grasp the meaning of those last three words ??
I wish you the best, but you are in for a rude awakening at some point, how ever it may come to pass.
Take care, be careful, and I wish I had all the knowledge and insight you have of the world.
You sir ARE a cut above (a blade of grass). :)

If they have some initiative to go beyond what corporate does or does not provide, they can do the research on their own. OH, I forgot they just work for the paycheck, nevermind trying to further knowledge on their own time. They don't get paid extra for that.
Corporate and management are to blame to some extent, but you can't use that as a diaper or crutch or excuse for the employee's lack of willingless to better themselves. Most of them act like they only work there because McD's was not hiring.
