ok researched for a couple months and ready to dive in (not literally...YET!) So i have all my lumber and materials i think, just need to find a carpenter to help me thats willing to work for beer :) I ordered a few things like a reeflo hammerhead gold pump and a couple LED floodlights to test them out. I got a 1000w JBJ truetemp heater and controller.
i need to

1. build stand
2. build sump from old 100g
3. pick up 500g 96"x48"x25" acrylic tank (already on hold for me)
4. plumb everything
ENJOY

heres a start of some of my stuff i have begun filling my basement with
sorry for all the pics. if you want to see a little more on the LED lights compared with marineland check my other threads

working on the filter tonight i will be sure to take pics, its def a work in progress!

ok started work on the sump today. im hoping it will be the only filter i need. im still waiting on my reeflo hammerhead gold, but i got the rest of it. im having water come into sump at each end and into 7" diameter filter socks. there are 2 socks on each end. instead of buying holders, i decided to make some. i got 6" PVC connector pieces and some aluminum rod. i drilled through the PVC so i could fit 2 rods through. also heres pics of the donor tank. i picked it up for 50 bucks a year or so ago and could never get rid of the hard water stains due to the previous owned deciding to brace it with wood so water always crept across the top and down the glass. i also picked up 20L (5.3gallons) of seachem pond matrix. im debating either trying to fill the tank with submersable bio media or just a little (20L) matrix and maybe a wet dry. i know flow will be fine if i dont try wet dry and it will be easier, but i need some input. well here ya go some pics!

PS i want advice and tips becuase im totally winging it!

careful using pressure-treated wood inside, I've heard bad things about the chemicals its treated with and seen a few arguments on here about it. IMO you're ok if its covered to prevent child/pet access to it tho. that being said, looking good man! g'luck!
