If that larger specimen is any example, they're great looking fish no matter what they are or where they come from.

It is concerning that it seems Ira's supplier told him he's the exclusive distributor but then released the fish to my LFS. If that's the case, that would be BS!

Potamus, you said the supplier told you that last weekend? Please explain...

hey cchhcc , hate to get off the topic but did you ever get those wild jack's from Ira you were asking for, because these badboys are growing like crazy:), oh and like you said those carp's are nice fish no matter what they are

So just reading some of the posts its likely that this fish is a Hybrid? Not that it would matter to me. If I like a fish and I do like these guys I will buy it even if there is a chance it could be a Hybrid.

No....decided they were a little too common for my tastes. Not that wilds are common, just the species. Still wouldn't mind if Ira let one of his larger female dovii go though!

I'm not saying it's a hybrid. Not at all. I'm saying it sounds like the sole supplier may not have been up front with those vendors he's releasing them to......at least from Potamus's comment about exclusive distribution.

As for other people, I think the question some have had is "where in the world is Carmen Vontehillo?"

I do not think anybody has said these (Ira's) fish are hybrids, there is some interest into the location of collection.

I posted hybrid pictures to show that there are some awesome looking fish out there, and without collection location information it is difficult to fully appreciate these wild caught fish.

I've already e-mailed Ira and will be getting some. All I was saying was that I've done searches and nothing is coming up in this location. Nothing.

That was my concern as well - can't find a place named Vontehillo, Laguna Vontehillo, or anything close anywhere in Mexico (or on Google...other than references to F0 fish from there)...

I have to say the members here are a pretty intelegent bunch so why is it that some would spend over a week making accusations and now denying that they did so and have tried to discredit the collector. Its obvious that I am not responding to these tatics but DCT has a website and lists several methods of contact. Call him introduce yourself, ask him about the fish or collection point or whatever you would like to know. It will be quicker and more accurate than google Don is very accessable. If you have been posting this hybrid collected in Odessa Fl theory and acting as if someone is trying to hide something it says more about who you are than DCT. I commend Don for continuing to find new and interesting fish to enhance the hobby. As I stated earlier we are an intellegent bunch we all get whats going on, after reading this thread who honestly believes this is about finding info and who belives its a continued attempt smear others.

Would you ask on our behalf than? You seem to get in contact with him rather easily and I doubt he would enclose the collection point to a random person over the phone.

Ira, you're just wrong, and I don't mean any offense. Why would I waste time inferring something rather than just saying it? Please refrain from putting words in my mouth.

MY question (and it happened on the third page in response to Potamus) was who was behind the "exclusive distributor" screw-up?

The OTHER posters were questioning the validity of Vontehillo.

Since YOU brought it up, as for asking Don, and I've SAID this before (didn't IMPLY it), he's always got a story. Validating stories has become tiresome. There was a story behind ever hybrid he "discovered" in his 1993 book.......all the way down to "collection points." I'll just flatly say I don't believe everything he's said. It seems many of the experts often posted here feel the same (check some of the old threads with Wessel and Loiselle, here and elsewhere). Plain enough? OFF TOPIC, but plain enough?

BACK ON TOPIC: You're the exclusive distributor of Vontehillo, well.....almost (why don't you feel taken?), so why don't YOU tell us where they're from? It's the seller's responsibility to explain his product, not the buyer's. And even then, the buyer can choose to believe he didn't get the truth. I predict you're going to discover you're the one who's been had.

Intelligence and experience can be mutually exclusive. Some of us have both. Some of you have one. You're going to have the second part soon, especially as it relates to DC. It's not your fault you're being mislead.
