No. I think he IS the sole SUPPLIER. What I was confused about was you said he had released them to Ira exclusively, but I saw them in my DCT supplied LFS that same day.

Which, of course, begs the question: Did he mislead Ira or you? Or both?

I've seen the 'Vontehillo' on Don's list for several months now so unless they were around before that then I doubt anyone had an exclusive.

I would say that most wholesalers will take the info given them by the guys actually catching the fish. I doubt anyone who brings in fish from mexico or any other 'wild' location independently verifies ALL the location points in person (maybe they do?). So they have to take at face value the info supplied by the fishermen. I doubt this is always 100% accurate. I'm not at all saying this is what happened here but I'm sure it's happened to wholesalers in the past. Makes sense right?

This is an interesting thread. I for one enjoy my many conversations with Don and he has a wealth of knowledge to share. He has done more for this hobby than all of us put together. I'm glad this thread has remained civil for the most part.

Maybe he was referring to something more specific. I posted that information so if anyone misunderstood it would be me. That's what I thought I heard, but maybe I'm wrong.

Here is a copy of IRA's sale ad just came out on the Feb 15Th
(F1 H carpentis vontehillo 2" $15 EXCLUSIVE first time available)
I think the confusion is the word exclusive.I take it that it is the first time F1 fry are available for sale from this animal.
Here is a copy of another ad of IRA's
(W/C
H carpentis Vontehillo 5"+ $120 pr EXCLUSIVE)
I think here too this can be misinterpreted.I think these are exclusive because they are the only W/C pair I have ever seen for sale.

Ira, you say you possess intelligence, but you can't even spell the word intelligent. All people want to know is where this fish originated. Clearly this has become a big deal to people, so why is it not important to you to find out the origin of this fish? Especially when you are selling them and your customers want that kind of information. Like cchhcc said, this is your responsibility as a salesperson, not the buyer's.

I'm not taking any sides but, from what I see constantly is every fish IRA post it seems to bring more negative attention then any other fish sold by any other vendor, think about it , The Godmani, The Boucorti, The Jack dempseys, The piebald catemaco, The conkelii Catemaco, yellow labridens, ETC. the list goes on , nobody or other Vendor faces this much scrutiny about his fish, and it's from Three members constantly cchhcc, reverse, dogowar. Why does every fish he sells raise question when the quality is next none and he sells fish for an affordable price which is good for all of us. Ira is one of the few vendors who doesn't keep wild pairs and F1 us to death for wild prices, because they can't collect on a scale that DCT can. It's just ludacris if you ask me:confused:

It is good that everyone be able to voice their opinion.

That makes for a balanced discussion.

BTW I do not think I participated in about half the discussions you have mentioned,
the godmani, bocourti, or the yellow labridens. But it sounded better to lump them all together, I understand the concept. If it could sound like we were ALL involved in all the discussions it made your argument valid........which it is not.

Back to the main question, where in Mexico is Vontehillo?

I'm not getting much info but from what i'm able to gather its a small region within the Luguana region itself. I don't know if that makes any sense but its all i can come up wth.

I found a rio vermelho but it is in Brazil

Good job not taking sides!

Again, putting words in our mouths. No one disputes that Ira is a good guy and well-intentioned. Heck, my intent in some threads has been to "out" my LFS. What's that got to do with Ira?

There ARE some common elements in these dicsussions though: the inability to get a straight answer from some people without any delay, a huge helping of defensiveness from some respondents, and the original source being DCT (and many of us have been keeping DCT fish for years to decades; don't tell us to ignore our experiences).

It's the defensiveness that causes all you guys to get so stirred up and emotional. Someone posts his wild bocourti, and I comment about how rare they are in nature yet they are available for purchase (even in my lfs!). My point was to underscore the IRONY of that situation (it is the same with Madagascan and many other species). Somehow you all interpret that as some affront. That's not my problem...

Also, as I indicated in another thread in response to a similar comment, you need to do some better comparison shopping before making sweeping statements about the prices of other MFK vendors. Say whatever you want, but your comments about prices just aren't true.

Where is Rio Nelio?

I hate bring it up, but I cannot find it either.
