Endo, can you give us some details on how you're keeping the beani? Like food you're feeding, filtration you're using, temp you keep the tank at...

I ask because Ive read they're hard to keep alive as juvi's.

Sure
I raise the beani solitary. Stress is the main factor that causes beanis to bloat at a young age, and avoiding that is your key to successfully raising a beani.
I feed only NLS, particularly TherA as the extra garlic doesnt hurt. I feed only twice a day as feeding too much can cause the beani to bloat into SBD

He is currently in a 75g by himself w/
2 AC110s and weekly water changes of 30% with the addition of liquid probiotics added to the tank to help support the immune system.

A lot of members like to keep beani at cooler temperatures below 70 degrees, however, I have had great success with temp around 76 degress to help avoid any external or internal diseases that could occur when the water is too cold.

That's basically it; avoiding any kind of stress, clean water and a healthy diet.

Thanks! That's doesn't sound too hard. Sounds like how I keep my current big fish.

Yea, keeping beani was never a "hard" task.
People just commonly make the mistake of raising them with other aggressive cichlids and thats just adding unnecessary stress to the beani which in turn lowers the immune system causing them to bloat.

I highly recommend you look into raising one. Mine is very interactive. And he doesn't have mood swings, for example laying on his side or hiding after a water change like some of the popular cichlids do (umbees, parachromis, etc.)
He is always active and not afraid of anything ;)

Fantastic looking beani, I'd love to have some.

I'm too nervous on buying some, I'm not sure what's the truth about their bloat issue. Lots of air to avoid bloat or cold temperature?
