He's finally coming out of his shell!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
eventually, I plan on having a bunch of tetras in with him, with the plecs having their own tank.

Other than that, he's doing well.

heya whats up sushi? nice pic im glad you told us how old he is kus now i have a rough idea how old my little p is.. he looks pretty much the same but he is still a skittish ba-tard. i just feed mine feeders and the odd pinky mouse now and then... they both will not eat dead food, unless they killed it..
i cant figure out how to post a pic on the thread...? but i got some pics in the gallery of Dexter and Bond(the little one).

and tetras are a bad idea... my little guy ate 20 of them in like 10 minutes... Dexter couldn't be bothered to chase them... so i guess it does all depend on the fish. wouldn't advise it though as tetras can get really bloody expensive if they keep getting eaten.

well, we bought him back in August at 2 inches TL. And he doesn't like hunting his own food, it's much easier for him to suck up pellets, flakes or baby shrimp ^^

The plecos are camoflaged on the black back wall, and he ignores them now. But I'm trying to decide how I want his tank to look like when it's finished.

first of i suggest a a piece of slate for the pleco to escape under (so the p's can't get in) and that is all u really need IMO... the p's will try and eat him but he can always escape into the cave ... did he eat pellets right away or did u have to "train him? if so how? and if not then i would like some info on how to make them take pellets? (would be allot cheaper... my pet store loves me (i spent over 2000 this month) though so i get feeders 10 for 4$ (got my first 5-6" P from them for a measley 15$ but i also bought a tank for 600 soooo...NM i guess he won, If pellets/other r cheaper then well I'm on board. and yea.... sooo? plz gimmie info want to treat my p"s as best as i can, and if that means that i need 2 ask for help so be it...

they hide on the back wall, and they had a flowerpot, but it scared the piranha, so it came out

As for the pellets, it took him a few days to get the idea (we finally sprinkled them and baby shrimp in the HOB filter output) but Kaylinn (Brian's) took right to the pellets, and she had been eating feeders in a shoal of 20-30 nickel to silver-dollar sized babies.

If they don't take to the pellets right away, don't give up. It may take them a while to get the idea that they need to eat them. They certainly won't allow themselves to starve to death, so I wouldn't worry if they aren't eating for a week or two. So keep up with it

they they start getting lethargic, and dull, then feed some feeders, and try the pellets in the next feeding.

Some other tetras that you could, should and would put in with him are more P's.

that is the possible plan in the future, but it's still kinda shaky since he's mostly blind in one eye, and I'm too attached to him to want to risk losing him.

The other one, since there's nothing wrong with her, will become part of a shoal (just as soon as I pick up the others)

That's the only reason he isn't with other piranhas already

nice sushi, i havent been on here in a while but liike like ur P is doing great

lol Jordan laughed when I read this to him about the OBNOXIOUS orange plant. He figured you would like it.

Lucy is kinda starting to come out of her shell now too. She used to be afraid to eat in front of us or with the lights on, but now she has no problem and took down 6 shrimp yesterday, which is a record for her.

Do you still have you other baby P? I say you get a few more to shoal with that one, and when they are big enough, add them in with hip and just be sure to monitor their behavior at first to make sure there are no aggression issues.
