They're holding today. They must have picked up the fry sometime this afternoon before I got home.

JD, did they ever raise free-swimmers or did you always strip them? I'm wondering how many days I have before I have to look for fry to siphon out... something tells me the filters and the other cichlids will make very quick work of them once she releases them.

If you want to raise the fry I would strip them. I kept 2 batches that way and then just left all of the other spawns. In a community setting they will be able to protect them for about 14-18 days. If they are in there own tank they can raise them no problem. If you want to keep this batch I would strip them in about 5 days.

Also I doubt you will ever have fry to syphon out. They generall take turns holding them and switch at night so you will not see them until they are swimming well. By then as soon as anything gets near them they pile back in the parents mouths. You will be amazed at how many fry can fit in a severums mouth!!

I'm staking claim while it's early this time, Ryan. Put me down for a few when they are ready. Don't let Gary have all the fun!

I have two rotkeil males if you want those instead. They're getting the crap beat out of them and I'm thinking of taking them to Gary this weekend. One is a bit small (maybe 5 - 6"?) and the other one is 7 - 8". The larger one was sold to me as "Red Head Tapajos" from Jeff Rapps and he does have some minor differences, but at first glance they both look like rotkeil.

I would be glad to take them, Ryan but I don't think I will be ready for them this soon. I promised my friend to help him move and set up a new 150. Then I'm headed out of town for a few days with my family. If they are still around when I return, I'll be happy to have them.
