high ammonia in a cycled tank,,,

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
how many gallons is ur tank? with 2 fx5 and a pro 3 should do the job and some. id prime the tank to get the ammonia down in the time being than flush the canisters with tank water and see if it stables afterwards. but yes it does sound like ur tank jump out of cycle. you can also try seachem stability works wonders for me.

125g one fx ,one pro3, I wonder why it Jump out of cycle

my tank has high ammonia for no reason.. problem is that how do i get the ammonia down and not to keep it down.. been having the tank for 5 years .. dunno why my ammonia went up, help

So you have the same fish stock, same filtration for 5 years? And now you have ammonia spike right?

If yes, then your bio level cannot break down the wastes so you need more bio.

You are at capacity for beneficial bacteria in your current filtration to process fish wastes is what it sounds like to me

So your meaning my filter isn't large enough for the waste my fishes makes right? Same question I asked above , my bio media isn't enough for the fish

Thats what *I* think anyway.

Your fish are getting bigger producing more waste.

Do you have another established filter you could add to the tank?

An air pump driven sponge filter would make a world of difference.

Powerhead with a big *** sponge on the inlet?

I have one of those also lol , they seem like suck a lot of dirt into them works great, those can't compare with a canister or a hob

Right but you said you dont have room for another filter. So a sponge in the tank was the next best thing to supplement your biofiltration.

And you fid say it was bare bottom? Thst leaves only the glass and the filters for surfaces on which the bacteria will grow

I cycled my 125 gallon in 3 days with an established softball sized sponge filter. Never underestimate the power of the sponge. (That sounds really corny but I cant say enough good things about them)
