  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The tank has been running for 3 years?
Or you've had it for 3 years? How big are those fish?
What are you using to test and how old is the test kits?
What's your water testing at?
I would do larger w/c

Been running for 3 years , I use API test drops , just got the kit 3months ago , ammonia 0 nirite 5.0 nitrate 60 I think , will a large water change harm the BB?

60ppm nitrate is considered very high stress for most fish (in fact anything over 20ppm nitrate is stressful), and more water changes will not harm beneficial bacteria.
You need larger and more water changes, need to clean out filters, and to not add more fish until your water quality gets much better.

That's too much bio-load for your tank, even though the fish are small (for now). Motoros excrete a ton of ammonia. You're going to have to do big water changes daily and I'd suggest growing some pothos plants too. How soon are you planning to get a bigger tank to hold your fish? Some of them are going to get big in a hurry.

Use some prime water conditioner it will take out all the nitrite and nitrate and ammonia and check your PH and see if its low. If you have a heavy load from a lot of fish, you might want to add some crushed coral gravel. It works great in my tank keeps PH at 7.0 to 7.2 I put a 40 pound bag in my two 420 gallon tank and I have a lot of fish and feed heavy

OP: ammonia will kill your fish before nitrate will.
Rays produce a lot of it.
Keep changing water.

I think your all missing something. What are the parameters of his tap water? If his source water is high in nitrates and nitrites water changes won't help.

If OP has Nitrates in his tap water, he needs to call the EPA. Not gonna have that in the developed world. Not since the 70's.
