high ph

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Recommended and ideal pH is lower. Don't be scared to use a pH modifier. ;) Let me see if I can find the name of ours real quick...

I wouldnt use ANYTHING to alter pH, very risky. A sudden change in pH will do more harm then a constant pH of say 8.0. Your pH is just fine, just make sure your water is hard enough to be able to keep it that high. Sometimes water out of the tap is high but soon will crash.

Ah, really? H20 Mike uses pH modifier and look at his rays, lol. We use it and it works wonders for us... even with the sickies while we do water changes. Hasn't been a problem yet. But I'm definitely down to do some more research on it. But you're right. It shouldn't be sudden. And good point about monitoring the tap water.

As far as the name of the pH modifier we use, Matt puts it in plastic sandwich baggies, so I'll have to wait until he gets home to get the name of it... if you would still like it and haven't been utterly freaked out about using it, ha.

my tap water has a ph of 7-8 .... will this be too high to keep a motoro ?

No problem with that PH.

If possible don't mess with your PH.

And this statement is from a friend of mine ;)

"you should never never never ever mess with the water.... steady PH is key dont matter how hard or soft it is"

Its been at a constant level since i moved in about 8 months ago .. ive been keeping cats , oscar /texas without any problems . I recently got rid of all and purchased a few small tiger barbs just to keep the tank cycled .. im upping my filtration and trying to get my water prepared for rays and just wanna make sure I have it right before i actually purchase them.

thanks for all your help..

Your rays will adjust to the ph. I would not modify it. As long as it doesn't fluctuate
I would not worry about it. A steady ph, even if a little high is better than a ph that
fluctuates.

your rays will adjust just fine, dont start messing with PH
my PH is 7.2 - 7.6 and have never had problems

lol. i would listen to these guys. they've been doing this much longer than i have.
i probably misread or misunderstood something along the way.

I use a PH monitor just a digital read out of what PH reading is. I dont use any chemicals to adjust PH as it comes out of my tap at 7.0 I think your talking about my DOSING pump that adds a solution of water/prime to remove chlorine and chloramines.
