I use a PH monitor just a digital read out of what PH is. I dont use any chemicals to adjust PH as it comes out of my tap at 7.0.

Thanks for the correction. My apologies. I feel very embarrassed.

Yeah, it wasn't you, but your associate that recommended the PH buffer. We simply keep our rays at the PH that comes out of the tap, but PH plays a factor in ammonia toxicity to a certain degree. I've also seen buffers used with rays when someone is really dedicated to maintaining a biotope, but strictly speaking I've never heard of a raykeeper having problems with PH below 8.0.

No worries, beautiful! We are all learning, and you did hear that recommendation while we were there- it just wasn't from Mike :)

As long as your water is conditioned before it is put in the tank, I really wouldn't worry about it. If your ammonia is low and you do regular water changes, PH should stay fairly stable and cause you no problems at all. :D

What's your KH reading ? KH is your water buffering capability. If your KH is 2-3 degrees, you may have a water that comes out at 8.0 on the PH scale, and it may drop to 6 within a very short period of time..

Nothing to worry about, Like Matt said it was my business partner who said to use the buffer. It can be done and but I feel there is really no need to use it as rays adjust very well to high PH.

dont worry about KH or PH just dont mess with it.

Then Ill just leave it alone , last thing I want , is to have to worry about fighting PH levels ..other than checking periodically for a constant level ... It can get frustrating .:grinno:

you guys have been very helpfull ... thank you.

hold up. theres no rays in it right? if not and you feel worried then change it to a better pH and let it cycle. If rays are in it then dont change a thing

Like others have said, the rays will adjust. Don't stress over the Ph.
