High price for azuls and kelberi

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Let me chime in :D

All these Azuls or Kelberi or Oddballs are being suck into Asia, the people there are willing to pay, and that's what driven the price to stay high

Althou they have talks & meeting with the fishermen and broker down in South American. To stop selling / exporting the fish to the wholesaler / supplier / middlemen or whatever you want to call it, so the price can come down. Unfortunately, many people are doing back deals and nobody got the powers to stop these trading. In the end, if it involves in money, who doesn't want to make them? :)

It's easy to know of where the US vendors get their fish from. It's always the same people and it's easy to get a share of the pie. But the point is, the price getting from the fishmen / broker will be always the same and it wouldn't be much profit if price war starts.

Sorry Hue but quality and rarity is important if I'm going to pay a high dollar. That's part of the cichla game. I'm not going to pay the same price for rare wild caught cichla as I am for captive breed cichla.
No No i agree with the wild caught prices ..My point was you get two guys that get one of these fish one turns out Beautiful the other Fuggly Why ???? the way it's raised simple!!!!!

does a rolex tell time any better than a timex? probably not...

is a diamond on the finger much more attractive than a sworaski crystal?

I do know that when you can't get the grape its probably sour
You are right for sure!!!

I did breed f1s no one bought them. when I sold the breeding pair he wanted a deal on those. So we the hobbiest are the problem we don't take care of eachother so why would the seller or the importer do something that we don't do for ourseleves.

To answer the OP question $200.00 is the average price for all of W/C collection and I think that was very fair.

Les be serious here 5 years ago it was $1200.00 for a Kelberi and I was told we would never get Azul or Orino.

And all that Gogol talk is another markiting tool to keep you all on the hook. IT MAY HAPPEN ONE DAY BUT by then you will have spent all your money on ugly bahias. lol.
You Did Breed your Mono for several years for sure And Yep no one willin to pay Sad state our hobby is in right now when people think a couple hundred bucks is to much to spend for a fish that in reality all these fry that are sold i would be willing to bet there are not more then a little over a hundred or so Adult chichla "over 18 inches In the entire US And lets take it a step further How many look like this at three years and over a well taken care of BEAUTIFUL wild caught fishes Pictures and vids are the only way for us to show are wares so DON'T SAY I'M SHOWIN OFF !!! Just tyen to make a point and not just type!!!:)I also think F1's and 2's can look great just like there wild parents with good breeding stock and well taken care of Fry it's all how ya take care of the fish!!!!!

Fogo my phone auto correct's it just tried
to did it again. I have had breeding Peruvian Monos breeding twice a month with multiple spawns. I only kept one offspring but its gorgeous.

....and I still don't have to as the analogy or example you brought up has nothing t do with buying fish so enough of all of that....The subject of the prices of captive bred fish being sold for the price of what a wild caught fish would is interesting though but not much has been said about that here.
Perhaps, you need to take your time and go back to read again... That analogy was for the person who thinks Orino looks better then Azul or Kelberi..

Exactly! They were in thousand range just not so long ago. Now they're in hundred range, yet, someone still complaints that the price is high... Just because there are a few more vendors can import Azul or Kelberi, and someone thinks the market is flooded... It's not like Azul or Kelberi can be found at Walmart or Petco... lol

Yea the market isn't flooded with good quality cichla but it is at a fairly low reasonable price. I found out after the fact that breeding and this current economy was a joke when it came to cichla. All the new keepers want a deal. I'm done with that mentality. If I was scared to spend a little money then I wouldn't have the collection I have now. And I have one of each species discussed in this thread. Except fogo but I got my money ready.

Uhh I don't.If that person feels that way then who is anyone else to try and tell him otherwise?

I'd still like your kelberi more then the orino's. But yes, your orino's took a long time to grow and us true cichla keepers watched them grow in front of our eyes with your weekly updates.

As far as the prices of the kelberi's and the azuls, I think the prices dropped a lot since 07-08. Simple supply and demand. BUT, I'm not all for vendors calling captive bred cichla WC. There are a couple of captive bred cichla I wouldn't mind having and/or hybrids to.

To me, if the bass looks good, get um no matter the cost.
