Hikari cichlid gold ok for African cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes that one. But for your male aulonocaras i dont think it will help as only the dominant males show really vivid colors. And let they grow out more they will color up even more.

Thank you so much. I will order this. Also everyone here talking about New Life Spectrum. Will order that too.

Thanks a lot for your help.

My cichlids didn't like the GOLD too much. I was feeding them Hikari discus food since I got them (I had leftover food) today I fed them hikari gold and they did eat eventually but not as eagerly as they went for discus food.

Give them time and they will eat it. If they are fat and healthy you can starve them for 2-3 days and offer them cichlid gold then they will eat it.

Thanks. Yes that's exactly what I thought. I wish I could educate my wife on this. She thinks I am cruel. She wants to feed fish three times. I told her fish will come near glass every time regardless if they are hungry on not but she believes they come near glass because they are hungry and dependent on us for food so we have to feed them and feed them. :wall:

I found her secretly feeding fish while I am away. I will try my best to convince her.

Apart from this, gold made a mess in my tank. Not like a big mess but cichlids crushed it so very tiny particles started to wander here and there. Maybe I need to feed very less? But I belive these tiny food particles will be always as the mini pellet is actually not very mini. Fish crush them inside mouths while in case of discus food (which I was feeding) they made no mess of it at all. But I am not sure if feeding them discus food is good for their health as it is more meaty than plant based.

Yeah I was once having issues feeding a discus fish. It was so frustrating. That particular discuss was only accepting bloodworms and I have severe allergic reaction to them even if I don't touch them.

I will starve my cichlids for two days and then will offer hikari gold again.
