Hikari Cichlid Gold stained everything!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
THis is off topic, but hikari also puts msg in their cory pellets so i think that they like to put additives into their food. The dye could be just another additive

I soaked 10 Hikari Cichlid Gold pellets in clean water overnight. Here are the results...do you guys see a reddish tint?

So what does this prove? Do you have this scenario of uneaten food floating in your tank overnight, if so you should probably be feeding much less and earlier in the day. Did it stain the bowl at all?

i think you should check for uneatten food or the fish probably ate it and you thought it ate it but it split it back out??? but it shouldnt turn read though. it should become either cloudy or brownish not red

for some reason i dont like cichlid gold, or bio- gold.. ever since i started cichlids, it was always NLS =).

cichlid bio-gold will turn white filter pads a light red color if you feed enough of it, even if you aren't over feeding, with larger cichlids or if you have a lot of fish in a tank. Same thing happened to me, i'm not worried about it, but i was going through a 8.8 oz. bag a week, and with that much red fish poop, somethings gonna get stained red, lol.

this proves that these pellets do stain the water. If your water is reddish...its these pellets. If you don't have this problem then never mind...If you do, just be aware.

Shouldnt you test this with more water, it may stain a cup of water but does it actually turn say 75 gallons red?
