Hit a deer today...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The deer kind of skidded over the top of my hood. He did take a few more steps, but then collapsed on the side of the road and died. I do have insurance. I'm going on Monday to have it appraised and to see how much it's going to cost to fix...

Get a carbon fibre hood! Prolly cheaper than a toyota hood. Bonus car sheds a few pounds. Im sure ebay musty have some carbon fibre hoods. Your car has a pretty decent following out there amongst tuners. Lots of aftermarket parts im sure. I personally wouldnt go thru insurance unless it damaged more than just the hood.

Good Luck!

And then you have to replace the hood in a year because the clear coat is peeling. Get a factory hood and save the value of your car.... lol

In WI there are lots of deer hit by cars. That actually doesn't look all that bad compared to many I've seen over the years. What I think is even more scary,....car driver hit by a deer that's running full tilt, out of a meadow or farmers field, and ran right into the driver side of car! This was a no-win crash, for both deer and driver. Happened about 7 or 8 yrs ago. I don't take the back/country roads during riffle deer hunting season here. *Sorry about your car! Looks like sweeeeet car!

This happens more than you would think. It has happened to members of my family probably three times in the last ten years.

Actually the deer died almost instantly. I was surprised because I really didn't hit him that hard. I couldn't take him because I didn't have any tags for him. I'm not sure what the cop did with him.

You dont need tags to claim road kill, or they give you a road kill tag. All you have to do is make some phone calls.

As far as all these comments "the deer kept running" most of those deer are dead.

You see very few animals get hit by a huge speeding chunk of metal that do okay. Internal bleeding is easy to do, and not easy to fix. Especially when you are a deer.

I agree.

My big buck kept on trucking after he ran into me, but I know in my mind that he didn't make it far. I looked about 150 yds into the woods and found nothing. I'm not a big deer tracker though.

from those pics, looks like you got lucky and only damaged the hood. i wouldnt go thru insurance for something like this. check on craigslist and junkyards to find another hood. i wouldnt recommend a carbon fiber hood. it'll prolly cost more, and its more maintenance or else it'll look like crap in a year or so. and getting cf hoods off ebay are usually low quality that doesnt fit like oem. im pretty sure you can look for another oem hood if you search around and can get it cheap.

not to bad of damage on the car. who really gives a crap about the deer, they are damn near plague numbers now. our conservation department issued a statement saying hit the deer instead of trying to swerve out of the way becuase thats kills the people. I think the last study i had seen said that something along the lines of 150,000 people a year are killed by result of trying to avoid deer in the road.

As sad as it is to kill an animal i agree with the above statement and it is a practice done by all who live in outback Australia, except over here its roos. Thats why pretty much everyone that lives out in the bush have 4wd utes with a bull bar on the front. Its just self preservation, you or the deer/roo.

Gonna mke u mad. I smacked one at 50mph with an ambo. Not a scratch. No paper work for me.

Deer didnt make it.

i have heard of people getting fined for taking a deer they just hit......

Different rules and regs for different states. If you have the same rule, they probably didnt call and wait for an officer etc...there is a process to doing it the right way. I would never eat that meat though...sad as it sounds it is most likely ruined.
