Ya, the only one I've seen for sale recently was $2,000

I keep a mata mata in an aggressive tank. As long as the fish are bigger than the matas head, he does not bother them. Other turtles however would tear up a fish even if it is way to big to eat. I have seen lots of people have success with FRT and mud/ musk turtles too though.

Apart from the risk of loosing fish, even a small turtle will likely give any filter a run for its money. Turtles are some of the dirtiest animals I have ever kept (an I've kept everything from hedgehogs to chickens). The dirt isn't just poop either; shed skin, shed scutes, and bits of uneater or halfeaten fish or pellets will need to be netted out, filtered out, or picked up if you want your filter system to continue to run properly.
And even with the best and biggest filters and overflows, whatever tank you keep a turtle in will need to totally drained, taken apart, and rinsed out at least every two months (every 2 weeks is more realistic, though).

:iagree:mata matas like to swalloe their food whole, they don't rip it up, meaning they can be housed with larger fish.
