how much do u think u spend in a year on the hobby ???
ur best total yearly cost guess
number of gallons u had up and running
salt, fresh, or both
type of fish (large, medium, small) (predator, plant eater, or mixed)
ur location (closer to the equator and u spend less money on heating)
new fish purchases

I have no idea. What about you?

Since January, at least $3000. I certainly didn't have to spend that much, but I essentially started from scratch again so that's not all operational costs(that would be crazy).

I'd say everything in, you're looking at about 1000-1500 a year for most advanced hobbyists. That's food, electricity(heaters are especially nasty), water conditioner etc + extra for the odd filter or heater here or there. That's essentially 100 bucks a month to get you by... sounds about right to me.

Although what i marked in red is true, we have to suffer using chillers for certain types of fish / inverts which costs a lot more to run than heaters...

But to answer your question, i really do not want to know how much i spend, or else i may decide to leave the hobby due to giving myself a shock at how much i could potentially save :grinno:

150 gals been up for about 6-7 months
fresh water
9 fish are 3-5 inches now all grow slow
predatory
live in central texas
started a new tank last year so all fish i bought spent about $300
about $200 total to set up my sump and tank
electricity ... $0.15/kilowatt hour
$38.88 for pumps
$129.6 for heater (on for four months i just calculated that all 300 watts ran 24/7 for 4 months so it is probably lower)
$3 lighting is leds so it is next to nothing ( i know this guess is too high)
$5 for air pump (this is just a complete guess)
water ... $1.75/ 1,000 gallons
i am guessing about 35 water changes of %50
$4.59 on water

total for 6 months of electricity and water
$181.7 this cost will drop for the next six months cause i will need even less heating.
grand total in the past 6 months
$681.7
well thats me

it all depends on the number of gallons u are doing. it it is costing that much a month for 75 gallons that is too much way too much
