hobby price for a year???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've spent about $1100 in 2 and a half years and that's with me being cheap. Lots of costs buying random stuff when you first start the hobby...

Mr. Wlikinson, it looks like you have the most expensive tank on this whole forum!

Spent well over a grand in the past few months lol. With my most recent tank costing me $800 for everything in my 230 gallon (tank with stand $350, fx5 with media $300, lid $50, light $60). Spent $200 for 2 55 gallon set ups before that. But I enjoy it, so that's all that matters lol

but see i think u are all missing the point. if u can figure out how much u are spending and can then see where to cut corners then u can take the money u save and buy more stuff

it all depends on the number of gallons u are doing. it it is costing that much a month for 75 gallons that is too much way too much

That's very true, I should clarify.

I run a 150+40G sump, a 40G breeder, and several 20-30G's from time to time as grow outs or hospital tanks.

The price I gave of $100 a month was to account for everything. That means medication(which we all know can be frustrating and expensive at times), food(a varied well balanced diet, specific diets for certain fish), water conditioners (dechlorinator, blackwater for discus etc), fish themseles, power.... I'd say $100 a month is fairly reasonable when you add all the operational costs in.
This also assumes that you are regularly buying and selling (or giving away) some fish on a regular basis.
