hobby price for a year???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't even want to know what I've spent considering the fact I've bought 2 240s within the last year and 9 datnoids( about to be 14) and whatever else stock

maybe it is just me that likes this cause i am really meticulous with how i spend my money with every thing else and it just hit me i am not so much like that with the hobby

that is when i feel like this would stop being a hobby.

Its called opportunity cost. If you want to establish the TRUE cost of the hobby you have to consider everything. The time you spend working on your tank is time you cannot spend doing something else. Free time is finite and therefore has a definite value.

Opportunity cost is the different between economic cost and accounting cost. To not include it seems naive and short-sighted. Of course, I am an Accountant with a background in Economics.

Last year i spent 3000-4000 on the tanks i had running. but i did alot of upgrades

i get the opportunity cost but i am not trying to see what is the most beneficial way to spend my time or the best way to improve what i do and how i do it. (if i was a breeder then yeah i would deff. throw that into the equation) I do this for enjoyment nothing else. that would be like buy a ticket to a concert $40 then saying i was there 3 hrs so that was another $45 so to go to this concert it cost me $85.
and i really doubt even u spend ur time looking for all the opportunity cost u built up on activities. it is impractical for most purposes out side of business plus then u have to add up the total amount of time u spent on adding up all those opportunity costs and so on an so froth

Fair enough, but too few people actually consider the non-financial part of pets. Just b/c you have the excess cash to cover the upfront cost and month-to-month expenses doesn't mean to have the time, energy, or discipline to put in the needed work to do it appropriately

I try to avoid quantifying my spending on my fish. It gets depressing. To save money, I buy everything I can online. Even with shipping, I saved a ton of money doing so.

i dont know and dont wanna know, actually dont care cuz the fish are stayin no matter the cost lol

OMG man, that's something that we assume and take for granted that its okay and so we aren't suppose to think about it. Between buying fish and taking them back for less and buying more for more and trading and this and that, I might have enough for my rent.................................and yours.
