Hobbyists vs non hobbyists.

I'm in the hobby just because it's relaxing and it's basically having a living, moving painting in your home. But all my tanks in my bedroom...65 and 30 gallon....soon to replace the 65 with a 240. And I'm only 15 for crying out loud.

I just keep quiet about it, it's a shame really :(

Same, my friends all think that me keeping fish is weird, and try to use it against me in arguments lol.

Despite me being quiet about it, people still manage to find out about it, so I must be accidentally giving it away.

one of the local news anchors here just complained on air about his tank leaking out over the work day yesterday. he got home in time to save the fish.

no need to keep quiet about it. so what if people think you're crazy?
I'm of the opinion that about 90% of humanity meets or exceed my requirements for insane. I feel safe in saying probably 99% of them would think I'm a nut job.

Yea having a part of your life that brings you happiness and helps you cope with stress and daily BS is great, its not a negative addiction, somenpeople are crazy for all kinds of stuff that only hurts them and others.don't think you can say that about fish-keeping

To clarify, I love the hobby, I only keep quiet about it because I get tired of people in my social circles making constant jibes etc, it becomes so wearisome after a while.

No joke whenever I have people over to spend the night (I'm only 16) I wake up and go feed and watch them for a bit and my friends think I'm fish mental lol

Hobbies keep me sane. If I didn't have something to think/plan about, I'd go nuts. I like my days and weekends especially gauged towards improving my interests. Learning new things keeps me sharp. I find people's attitudes are predisposed before they see the tank. If they don't give a crap about that sort of thing, they won't care past the first minute. If people are easily impressed then they won't leave the tank for 20 minutes at a time. Genuine interest will result in people starting to shop for their own tanks. I don't think whatever setup/stock you have will change many people's attitudes of an aquarium before they even see it, though there are exceptions. Too busy to care if people don't like it, don't exactly do it for other people anyway.

Most of my friends and family think it's awesome that I keep all my fish and like others have said, those who don't aren't worth my time.

I have a few of my friends ask me why I spend so much money on fish when I don't even eat fish?? I tell them " fish are friends not food ".... If I went out to the bar tonight and spend $100 drinking would that be crazy? Not to you it wouldn't be but to me that would be stupid... Pay $100 to risk going to jail or getting killed in a bar fight and wake up the next morning feeling like ****, or spend $100 for something I will love and enjoy for years to come.. Now who is crazy for wasting that money??

I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I own my home, my wife drives a nice newer car, I have enough cars trucks and vans that I could drive a different one everyday for the next 2 weeks and still not drive them all so what should I spend my money on?? I own a car lot and a snow plowing business that's why I have so many trucks and van. LOL..

And honestly like other have said I don't care if others like it or understand it.. I do it for me not them!!!!
