can hole in the head disease spread to my other fish? I had a lonesome JD who has hdh but is slowly improving with often 50 % water changes but I have introduced new fish and was hoping this disease will not spread.

Additional vitamin C has been know to help too, the addition of a vitamin block to the aquarium can be used during the healing process. Red Bell Pepper is very high in vitamin C and has been used if your fish will eat it, It's great for Oscars they generally eat anything that hits the water. Clean water and a good diet (high quality pellet) will go a long way in the healing process and prevention.

not all fish are susceptible to HITH.. but most cichlids are.. theres always a chance other fish can get it... if stressed out .. or continuous bad water perimeters. Also if the fish dies from HITH the parasite will or can look for another host.. some fish have HITH all their life ..it lies dormant in healthy fish sometimes.. .. most healthy fish living in good conditions would not be a candidate for this dreaded parasite disease....... if a fish gets run down for one reason or another this ugly disease will take advantage..

Oh man... This is a prime example of what I have going on right now. My red devil will be 6 this year and HITH has took out chunks of his face here and there. This disease is very depressing. He eats and swims fine but I know its still eating at him slowly... And it started this past year.

Try using VitaChem and keeping pristine tank conditions. It works. I promise.

yes very sad long hard to fight disease... i think most you can do is to keep fighting back with water changes and good diet.. not many are a success story.. i lost a jaguar and oscar to this disease....... but you can fight for their longer longivity........ some can live many many extra years.. pretty much have to catch it early on... good luck.......i tried all the medicines.. it does help... but did not cure......
