For me, in this instance, the astonishment is simply because it came from the very place that I have been swimming in the Ocean so many times, so it hits close to home. The "What If" and the fact that it's a commercial fishing town yet things like that are very rare to be actually caught and seen. I know they're out there, it's just a big WOW !:headbang2 :headbang2 Pretty Cool actually........

Brianna, I fully agree with the WOW factor...but realy they're all over the place.

and as said, a Mako, being a pelagic shark never ventures near the coast ( well, at night it could, in fact )..so the chances of meeting one of them are slim.

Love :) :) :)

sorry in socal they come in close and shallow :headbang2 :headbang2

John, sure its Mako's that come in close in So Cal? During the day? They are, together with the Longimanus, the most pelagic sharks I know of..and pelagic sharks creep in at dusk at the most...

not wanting to start a debate, though, my friend:) :)

yeah.. i have to say..
the makos in so cal stay out far and deep...

its the great whites that like to come in and say hi especially down in san diego and up by newport....

that is what I thought..Great whites are not pelagic and they do come near shore..

people tend to mix them because of the shape of their tail, but they're completely different species..

huge shark  :WHOA: :naughty:

awsome.... a great white swam up a creek near my home bout 10years ago... i was crabing at the time, scared the crap outa me! a friend called coast guard who inturn called sealife center who promptly came and heli lifted the shark to a new home... this happened in Southampton England!!!! far as i'm aware the shark went to Portsmouth sealife center where it lives to this day...

It's weird to see stuff like that, because I always think of sharks of being tropical species, but I guess they're pretty much everywhere! Oh well, Grays Harbor's a little too chilly for me anyway ;).

oh my:WHOA:
