Holy Cow is this an awesome looking fish!

That guy is beautiful! I'd suspect that is some sort of oddball coloration, all of the tank raised ones I've seen have been solid black.

Edit- Nevermind, I'm thinking irwinii. >.<

Moved to catfish.

Irwini name changed to uranoscopus. What I read is uranoscopus was the first described and named. Then Irwini was found and thought to be a new different species but later turned out to be the same fish so first name takes priority.

Interesting. I didn't realize they were the same thing!

I've seen exporters class these guys differently. Offering regular irwini and another variety. Can't remember is it was labelled by a locality or colour variety. Was significantly more than the regular irwini of the same size and would of required a box to itself for shipping. Couldn't justify getting one in for that reason.

Rob, you are confusing niger with irwini, I think.

The OP pic is indeed the most beautifully colored irwini I have ever seen. I am afraid, in an analogy to juruense, we will (almost) never get to see them colored up like that in captivity. Irwini coloration varies quite a bit in captivity. Here is one of the best colored adults I have seen in captivity: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=29042

Talking of striking, how about an orca-like IDS? http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=38667
