Ok, I said I understood he was trying to do good. But since my last message got blasted, answer me these questions.
1) As already stated, goldfish are cold water, so no heater needed- where's the problem with leaving them?
2) If the fish had been regular price, would you have still walked out with all of them? (And don't you dare tell me yes!)
3) How is their situation better now than before? You already said you can't keep up with the ammonia spikes.
4) Why aren't all of you people rushing out and buying up all of Walmart's fish to save them? Is it like 53 said, you're lazy, don't care, and are cruel?
(...)
p.s. I was very civil with my very first post, until it got ripped

1) I know there are people on MFK that will think badly of me for this, but I have always had a soft spot for Goldfish. Yes, they are cold water types, but like any other fish they need slower, gradual temp changes. If they were in heated water and the temp dropped a bunch in a short time, real stress sets in.

3) They are with someone who at least gives a D*mn and is ACTUALLY TRYING to make it better for them. That was not happening at WM.
4) Not all WMs have fish departments. My local one does not.

I think the best thing that might come from 53's action is the discussion with the managers. This called to their attention the way the tanks looked, the condition of the fish, and the fact that at least one customer was p[%%ed off about it, so much so as to do the rescue. It could very well lead to that location, and perhaps more, to stop having these departments. Tropical fish can not be a cash cow for the stores, and ill will of customers is taken into account when decisions are made.

PS. My local Petco had a betta that I rescued. He looked like he'd been stepped on back in singapore and had no tail at all and other fins were not in good shape. Mgr. gave me 20% off on him. He is now growing out nicely (I've had him a week) and loves frozen blackworms.

Tell me those aren't heaters in the goldfish tank
:(
jab jab ;)

A heater in a GF tank can prevent swings of temp that can cause more trouble than a little warmth. A CONSISTENT temperature, even if it is a little warmer than they like, is better than swings up and down.

posters should be able to criticize and flame each other. unless this thread was created so that suck ups would post fake comments like "good save" or "that was nice of you".

cmon people show your real sides. what do you really think about buying a hundred something fish because they were in bad conditions. why dont we all go and save the next fish thats about to get its head chopped off at the supermarket. or buy the one eyed fish and leave the ones with the best fins and scales to the "cold hearted" people to buy. in the end all fish are fish right?

bradys complaint was saving them and puttin them in worse conditions. im saying why save them in the first place. so many fish die in the hands of wholesalers. thats just the way the fish trade works and theres nothing that you can do at this moment but make that .000000001% change. if i were you i would have saw those poor fish and thought sucks to be you. theres a reason why members ask for pictures when buying fish. they want the best looking and healthiest fish. EVERYONE does.

cmon people be real. if i was being fake i would prance around this thread and say "that was a nice save. i bet those fish must really love you". im being real and im telling you that was a nice but stupid save. what i say is what all of you guys think inside. what you guys post on this thread is just you trying not to damage your mfk rep. i know the world isnt fully composed of people that go and buy ugly unhealthy fish. i know i sound like an animal but im speakin the truth

Posters should be able to discuss/disagree/agree and explain the whys of each. To "Criticize and flame each other"? No. IMO, that leads to flame wars and ill will among members. So take a :chillpill:.

I spent some time working in Greenpeace. Sometimes an act that seems wild can draw attention to an issue when just talking about it doesn't achieve results. I think 53 was in his way "speaking truth to power." I can only hope he made an impression on them. It has certainly made an impression here.

I have also worked in the wholesale end of the fish biz. Feeder GF die, because they are feeders. They are treated like dirt from beginning to end, and it's a wonder any live at all. In our shop, we tried to keep them in holding tanks w/steady H2O changes, and feed them up a bit before they were shipped out, not just from pity, but because a dead fish can't be sold.

I think people here are being real. You just don't like their POV. Your truth is a partial truth and seems to not encompass the truth of others.

As to what the fish are thinking??? Probably a lot of confusion and fear/anxiety at the changes.

I don't have an "MFK REP" to damage.

I always welcome all opinions in my posts. This one got pretty heated for a while, but all is setled and we all get along. That Walmart is selling fish again, and I can't even think about setting foot in any Walmart again.
The good news is, I found a home for the rest of the Goldfish. The Koi and Comets are going into a ridiculous pond, somewhere in the 15,000 range. The Fantails and Black Moores are going into 100 and 200 gallon ponds. I know a woman who is crazy about her ponds. She is taking them all. She empties the smaller ponds in the winter and brings the fish inside for the winter.

Settling down always happens after a while, esp. when people don't flame. I'm so sorry about the WM. :( Perhaps removing the FDpt, is an issue they will take up at an upcoming meeting. I can understand why you wouldn't want to go back in. Perhaps you could send a scout every few months. Also, you could post the address of that particular WM and people could write letters. If it's not on the Agenda, it needs to get there.

So Glad! Keep us posted about the others, ok?
