sorry for your loss. not to sound insensitive but were the dogs locked in crates or something? I would like to think my dog would be by my side waking me up and crawling our way out of the house.

:-(

this reminds me to install the smoke detectors I bought a year ago that are still in the garage

Wow, that's unreal. Sorry to hear about your tragic losses. My buddy made it out of a lakehouse cabin fire a few months ago but two of his close friends from college did not (one of them was actually a firefighter). He's had a rough time since the tragedy... he's been seeing a therapist for PTSD related issues and it has helped him a lot. It sounds like your wife is already seeing someone about it, which is definitely a good thing.

I just checked all smoke alarms...thanks for the reminder. Everyone reading this, replace your batteries every year and test them every month or so...it could save your life.

My thoughts are with you and your family Chaidan.

"would like to think my dog would be by my side waking me up and crawling our way out of the house"

You think its a movie mate? And you and the fish would have swam out yeah? Be a bit more sensitive.

Sorry for your loss Cleckchau. May our prayers be with you and your family. Really glad the family is safe mate.

Thank you everyone for the thoughts and words of encouragement, we will get thru this someday I'm 100% sure of it, its just hard losing almost everything overnight and rebuilding our lives.

Regarding dogs, they were not in crates they had their own area in the room which was divided between parrots, aquarium and their area with a dog door to the backyard. We lock the dog door at night and open it in the morning so they couldn't get out when the fire started. Since the fire started in that room, by the time my wife got outside and tried to save them they were already on fire and the police held her back when she tried to go back in after them, it was like a scene from your worst nightmare seeing and hearing your pets dying but not being able to do anything.
