wait....you just filled up the water and add the elong in there? tell me you didnt.

Sticky, I know what Im doing.. :)

50% new water
50% cycled tank water
with filters, and decor from cycled tanks..

Its fine, just as good as cycled.

IMO that is not good. i will beat you 100% your parameter are all mess up. Not trying to derail your thread or telling you not to do. but that is not proper cycle. that just me though.

I totally agree sticky.. This is not how I normally run my tanks, but it was kind of a spurt of the moment thing..

I know what I did was the best possible way to handle this situation and provide a somehwat established tank.. Im sure the parameters are messed up a bit, but they will slowly fix themselves, I will watch them and do a w/c if needed..

Besides the half cycle, piranha are tough, like you know... He can handle it. :) I respect you, and agree totally.. But its much better than throwing him in a tank with new water, new filters, new everything... you know?

Did you see, or did I mention, there is a huge blue gruamia in the tank... I dont know how to spell it..

But the guy I got it from gave me a HUGE pleco and that blue gruami. How long do you think it will last, its bigger then the elong.

Here is what i would do...

DO exactly what you did. filled up with old and new water 50/50 use old gravel or sand with active filteration. HOWEVER I would pay for the Elong and have the LFS store hold the Elong for you untill your tank are fully cycle( im sure LFS will hold it for you)....

If you do that cycling your tank now wont take long, patience is the key. YES piranha are hardy fish, but having right water parameter, and right envoriment are important to they health, grow, and comfortable.

But you are smart guy, im sure you will learn as you go. Trust me i did the same thing you did when i first start out piranha. There is nothing wrong of what you doing, we just want what is good for the fish.

Funny thing is... I asked them to hold it... They said they dont hold fish...Grrr.. Had to take advantage of it.. But totally agree. First time doing this with my expensive fish.. Ive done it one time when setting up my mom community tank at her work, LOL..

How long do you think that blue graumi will last in the tank.. He is bigger than the elong.. About 4-5 inches, and fat.. What do you think?

If you have filters from an established tank running on the new tank you got nothing to worry about, IMO.
Cycling happens in the filter, that's where the biggest part of benificial bacteria thrives...
