I have used a set up similar to Miles, but I used lava rocks in place of the army men. It worked great and did not look too bad. I love that idea of the army men!

i have been thinking about this for a while now i was going o use a 55 gal if i ever built the tank of my dreams i want to turn the 55 gal into a huge over the back filter
use pvc, extra piece of glass or plexiglas ,2-3 powerheads
get 3 pvc corners
make the inlet valve like the one on an over-the back except your going to needthe pvc to go all the way to the back of the tank
attatch the powerheads to the pvc
make a filter cartrige so that it will fit the tank
take the glass /plexiglas and cut the front of the tank 2-3 inches down from the top in the front
take the glass and caulk it to the cut edge at an angle
and fill the tank with water and turn it on and it should work if it dont send me a pm and tell me the problem
