When I first cycled my tank I hooked up a canister and ran it separately (both in/output) into the sump for some mechanical filtration, now however, I took away the canister and just have the mechanical filter bags in my sump, like a charcoal bag and a chem-pure bag, they just sit there in my sump where my motors are.
