Hoplarchus psittacus - new center piece

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Awesome!!! They are definitely amazing fish!!! Any red breast showing through yet?

Definitely get some Crenicichla for that tank!! :D :D :D They look AMAZING with Hoplarchus, especially the larger Lugubris pikes like marmorata and lenticulata. :)

Here is a picture of some 'Brazilian' Hops I had about four or five years ago. They were about 6", but that red was really starting to come in. Definitely amazing fish!

lol you must go through a ton of food. mine loves hakari sinking pellets so much and eating whole sinking algae wafers rotfl he starts jumping before i open the lids lol he's a bigger pig than my chocolate was

I generally buy 6 kinds of pellets and mix them up in a plastic canister. I grab a full handfull and pitch it in every afternoon.

I think right now I have a mix of

Tetra jumbo cichlid sticks
Hikari gold
Hikari bio
Massivore delight
Kensfish 5 stick blend
Alge waffers

This works really well and there is so much competition that they just eat whatever they can got to. Doesn't give them a chance to get picky and they get a good diverse diet.

Those fish are beautiful. Do all adults end up as blue/green as those? If I had a larger tank I definitely wouldn't mind having a few. I always see them on lists but I didn't realize how colorful they were.

Thanks PP :) Im thinking about atabapo II or lent.....never had pikes before so need to do some reading.

Alex mentioned that they got very red breasts, especially the male. Will post pics when they color up.

I remember your group and an accident of some sort....what happened again?

I will be there. Myself, my neighbor, titansfever83, and Jon Carmon(musiccitycichlids.com) are riding down together. Hopefully there will be some good deals. I'm looking forward to it.

I seperated out your fish yesterday Peter!!!!!!

As for the food I just buy one large bag of each and dump them all together. Much easier then openings a bunch of different things every night. Plus you can get it all at once online and save some money. It lasts a long time to and stays good and fresh in a plastic canister. I think I bought most of that about 4 months ago and an about half way through it.

Surely you can spare a couple more psittacus Sean :naughty:!!!!

I'm not really looking for anything in particular other then some cryptoheros/archocentrus stuff. Maybe some pleco's or a discus or 2 if I find a good deal. I'm just going to show up and see if anything strikes my fancy. I'm sure I won't leave empty handed:).
