hot dogs for dinner

So after talking to some people I have gotten some interesting responses when i tell them I feed my fish hot dogs.

I also rotate in tilapia and sometimes shrimp and the occupational pellets ( not much cause the cloud my water).

my stock list is:
3 motoro stingray
a marble cat fish
a red tail cat fish
a red tail/tsn hybrid
2 clown knifes
3 Florida gar
a syn cat
2 common pleco

all but my newest male motoro have been on this diet for over a year and seem to be just fine. the newest male is still on worms till he starts on the other foods im feeding.

I'm wondering how many others are using hot dogs and if anyone has found faults in using them?

I know bigrich and his son are using them but what others are?

Hotdogs are rubbish for humans so can't be that good for fish

Agree...........but they are yummy...........mmmmm hottt dogggss

I believe nitrate or nitrite is also used as a preservative

Chocolate is yummy for dogs but it kills them so best not to let them eat it

I started on the dogs for the cats. I was letting the cats get full then putting in tilapia for the ray, however after a week of feeding the ray started to out compete the cats for the dogs. they will actually attack the cats if they get to close. sadly my fish ray included like the dogs better then the tilapia. I have put both in at the same time and its the dogs gone first then they go after the tilapia.

as other have mentioned its not that the fish wont eat them but its the consequenses of feeding them. i doubt fish are capable of dealing with high fat content foods long term. humans increasingly consume more and more fat in foods but fish tend to eat more insects or fish which are low fat. if you keep feeding high fat foods im certain you will have problems.

fat floats for a start. that cant be good to have a fat fish wallowing on the surface of the tank :D
fat clogs arteries/pipes = thats your filters done too.

i think you would probably notice the differnce in the tank itself before the fish.

good luck but i dont think its a good idea.

I only eat the best, Nathans! And as for as beef heart or any heart, I eat them......Yummy!
I knew a guy who fed his pirahna hot dogs and dog food for over 10 years. Last time I seen them all 4 were at least a foot long.
Pesonally I wouldn't/won't feed anything such as that to my fish but.........
