Hot snakes handling

Following the debate, do you think that a responsible hot keeper should be prepared, as a last resort, to kill its snake if , upon evasion, catching prooves impossible, or at least, highly difficult?

Amazing cobra pictures. Cobras were my favourite snakes when I was first got into learning about species at a young age.
Although most of my favourite snakes are venomous,
I would never keep one. I don't think my opinion will change.
If you had a neighbour who "lost" a venomous snake, what would you do?
What if your family members (including dogs and cats) and friends were at risk?
It may not be the most humane option, the most logical option is to kill it.
I, for one, would not hesitate to kill it before it killed me or my family member/friend.
If you're keeping a venomous animal, please be responsible. Please don't take any chances of killing yourself or your loved ones.

I also love venomous snakes. By far my favorite type of herps, especially Viperids.

But what you say is exactly what I feel. In the last second of the snake evading the snake room, for whatever reason ( surely due to a handling or husbandry mistake ) I would kill it the second I felt it would disappear, get lost in my house....

Well id hate to make that decision as i love my snakes! And it should never have to come to this point of killing your snake! if you"ve done everything right to stop a escape in your hot room!Miguel;4722576; said:

Well, I think it would be a very tough call but I would certainly do it if it had to come to that.
On a side note, I have a friend that got called to someones house who had a copperhead in the kitchen. He decided to try and catch it and relocate it but it slide into a crack making it impossible for hook to get at it. He grabbed the tail to try and pull the snake back but it was turned around in the crevice and bit him on the tip of the fingers. It ended up costing him $300,000 in medical bills but he got the snake out of the house. This may have been a good situation where killing this rather common species would be (unfortunate) but perhaps better.
I think I would probably end up bit trying to save a snake than kill it but it is really difficult for me to imagine a scenario where killing it is absolutely necessary.

My HOT room will be almost escape proof. The only way in to the main house is a small door that fits tightly into the door frame, other than the small crack under the door. No vents into the house either. When im done it will be nearly 100% escape proof for that very reason.

I'm still trying to imagine a scenario of a where killing a hot would be a better choice than catching it.......
If hot keeping is done right, the scenario is non-existant and not even a consideration.......Besides what are you going to kill it with? A shovel, gun, what?
Nothing like shooting up a place or running around with a machete.......That poses more danger is my eyes than catching a Snake that is loose.......The proverbial shooting yourself in the foot comes to mind.......
