Hot snakes handling

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You were tailing them with one hand and balancing a camera in their face with the other on your kitchen counter. Call it what you want. I call it playing chicken ;)

And Ole Dawg = Miguel. I was apologizing to Miguel.

ok buddy" but allot of people tail cobras in england eaven baby taipans i know of well respected people in the hobby do these!!

i do use midwest hooks also! cobra"s have a habbit of shooting up the hook in seconds thow buddy! thats wy allot of people tail elapidae!

Taipan are nothing like a Cobra. Well, Inlands anyway. Inland Taipan = slow, docile, non-agressive. Cobra = like a belt on crack, zipping around, mean, fast.

Hot Snakes are not handling animals.

I have done both. With the viper with the infected gum, I pinned it between two pieces of foam and used a cleaned probe to open the mouth and tweezers to remove the fang. I then rinsed it out while it was still pinned and once done, I used a hook to transport it back to the cage. My fingers never touched her the whole time because there was no need for that. As for the cobras, I had to force feed them when I first got them. I used hemostats to pick up a tube. I cracked the cage door to allow the tube to go in and coaxed the cobra into the tube. Once it was in the tube, I grabbed the body of the snake to prevent it from slipping out. The snake was properly restrained and even though I was holding it, it was physically unable to maneuver its head any where other than where I directed it. I never had to touch the snakes unless they were restrained.

I have no problem with tailing, I do it all the time. I do have a problem with free handling which is what you were doing in these picture. You were not using a hook or any restraining method and the snakes were too small to tail anyways. That is why I am concerned.

It is hardly a medical case when you're tailing a cobra with one hand and holding a camera in the other. Instead of trying to defend yourself so incessantly and deciding that you and you only are knowledge incarnate, why don't you take the advice of people like miguel and chris? And I meant advice, not quite criticism. You do have nice snakes and tons of experience, but it doesn't hurt to listen.

and actually, i volunteer at a nature center, and of course they don't have a cobra, but their vipers ride a hook perfectly well.
