Wow 90 is max! Cover and lites off with a fan blowing air on the water line maybe even 2. Also point ur outakes or powerheads at the top so there's surface aggitation! Also more bubbles will help too, just make sure u don't put freezing water in and temp shock him! I have a fan under my stand and a circulator 3 inches below my water line and it blasts water up, these two methods help 4-5 degrees

No you said 90 was max.

I dont know your living situation but is there any way to get the fish into a basement below ground level. Ours stays below 65 degrees even on the hottest days. Good luck.

I take care of my fish but I don't baby them. I'd not be worried about a temporary upward spike if the tank was still oxygenates. That's just ME though.

I had 75g in livingroom and water temp goes above 90 during summer when I'm not home or AC isn't on and fish was fine (I also had my tanks set at 90+ for two weeks to treat ick and they were fine). most important is to keep the water aerated. to help cool the tank you can try what other had suggested by using fan, keeps light off, using ice bottle or ice cube in some plastic container, etc.
is it in any direct sunlight? if so try to block the light, it'll help. does that room have AC if so turn it on, that would help a lot.
if the water cools down at night then you can also try to wrap the tank with insulation that would help prevent heat getting into water during the day.

There isn't a basement, and no a/c in here. I knew about warm water = low oxygen, and piranha are low oxygen fish, so I've got that covered with my air pump. the filter side where the output sets is uncovered, hopefully that will help, and the temp broke a bit last night, so it was much cooler. it's been 100+ here all week. urgh...

If you think my stress over the fishies is bad, you should see my worry over the bunnies! I put one of my sister's rabbits in the tub last night, she was having trouble breathing. Minion and Nemesis (our rabbits) get doused with water on the hot days, and I've been tempted to bring them into the livingroom where the A/C is. I don't baby my fish either, thankfully. I just don't want fish soup in my tanks. Mike babies his, my friends and I say his fish don't even have to swim for themselves. lol

Somebody posted the other day, in a thread about cooling tanks, that he fills an ice chest with ice and puts a bowl in the ice and put his air pump in the bowl. The ambient cold air of the chest is blown into the tank and cools it pretty quick. Might want to give that a try. Good luck

I like the sound of that, I'll just have to try it. Thanks!
