The talking when refered to catfish is when their pectorial spin base rubs against their pectorial girdle(clavical/scapula). It produces the sound you hear a catfish make when it is agitated. Most species of catfish with hard pectoral spines can produces these barks, grunts, squeeks, ect. I have heard the name talking catfish in reference to over a dozen other genera of catfish, so it's not just you ;). The base of the pectoral spine in most catfish actually has a small rough plate on the inner most portion of it, these lock into place when the fins are full spread. The fish simply forces the fins past their intended motin till the rough plate grinds against a similar rough plate in the pectoral girdle, this causes the talking! Fishermen can attest to catfish barking at them when caught here in the USA. Good luck with your fish, and like everyone else said think pond unless you got the money for the big aqaurium!
