How can I maximize growth of my peacock fry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
And lol besides I personally don't like my fish to breed anyway. It just present more problems than help. People who breed with intentions of money really have no clue and people who breed in a community setting are in for a ride so I hope that for as long as possible my fish do not breed unless they are my platies. Because then my fish have a snack lol.

I breed some... but only my Victorians... I have a couple of ruby greens, Kyoga flamebacks, Zebra Obliquidens, and just got a new P. Nyereri 2'' male... ill find some females for him later

those are mainly for species conservation, but yes I do sell them for a little spending money, but most of it just goes back into keeping them healthy, with good foods, and water treatments

The rest of my fish are 1 offs to keep them FROM breeding, such as Male Melanochromis', Female Metriaclima, Male Labidochromis, Female Psudotropheus, and my Haps, pecocks and Tangs with the exception of my Frontosa are all males
makes mixing and aggression LESS likely... Its worked for me so far and Ive only ever had to re home one killer Rouge, I moved him before he could kill my Albino Red Top Zebra

When I was breeding a lot, I had one species of peacock and a couple species of labidochromis. The grow out tanks were a 75g with 25g sump and a 125g with a 30g sump. 50% water changes daily and fed 3-5 times a day. Other smaller grow out tanks for other species were getting 50% changes twice daily. All my breeder tanks were getting minimum 25% changes twice a week. So yeah, more water changes. Really does help.

but see thats my point your making money but almost all of it goes back into the aquarium, im talking about people who breed thinking they will see a ton of money. its way harder then is may seem and if your breeding common species you'll get nothing and if your breeding rare species also good luck because there is a reason they are so rare. and i agree completely i try my best to keep males and females seperate.

thanks, i was thinking if i should bump up my feedings. i feed 3 times a day on nls, and flakes. and soon brine shrimp and mysis. and today im due for a good water change.

Water changes are good, but daily 2x 50% seems a little overkill, unless you had no substrates then I do get the reason behind the frequency when you are feeding heavy waste gets heavy with excess food and such with no biological help...

just make sure to not overfeed not saying 3x/day is too much... just watch how much at each feeding, they can get constipated, and thats what helps cause bloat is blockage in the digestive tract

I kept my pbass since about 1.5" and now there around 4" within 2 months and they have so much color especially my orino and ocells. Ive been feeding them on a mix diet using feeders as a training food to get mines on whatever drops in the water. I used DieselMack`s method and got my pbass of of live at 2" very useful if used early. But i feed mines sinking carnivore pellets daily with some market prawns chopped small enough for them and pellets.

You hit it. Bare bottom and lots of food = lots of WC's. Just think about 80-100 1" fish in a 40 gallon running 2 AC500's. Those usually went for sale right at 1" though. I used the bigger tanks for fish, like the peacocks, that I wanted to get to 2" or more before selling them because they got a better price.

And you are right about the feedings. Make sure you don't over feed. I did lots of small feedings, gone in less than 10sec, but more often. It seemed that when I did fewer feedings that more fish were out competed for food and wouldn't grow as fast and I was ending up with half the fish at a much larger size than the other half.

It was a lot of work, but I loved doing it. Never did it for the money, just loved spawning all the different species. I broke even most of the time and every so often I would score pretty good at auction and make a little.

i was thinking 30% twice a week is good and i guess all fish are different right

If you are going to do 30%, why not take the extra 4 minutes to do 50% twice a week. You would be changing out 100% per week. I have 65g with a pair of Andinoacara aequinoctialis that I'm growing out now and doing about 30% every other day with twice daily feedings. And that is for just two fish. Though I think the male is going into the 125g early because he won't stop harassing the female. But he's already put on some size so hopefully the Endlicheri won't get him. ;)
